Welcome to the official Budokan website.
The Dojo was founded by Sensei Ian Applegarth (5th dan Iaido, 3rd dan Jodo, 1st dan Kendo) in March 1995 but is now run by Lee Mountain (5th dan Iaido, 2nd dan Jodo)
Lee Mountain is the Dojo Leader for both the Iaido and Jodo in Darlington, Durham and Sunderland.
Here at the Budokan we study two types of martial arts which are Iaido (Seitei and Muso Jikiden Eishin Ryu) and Jodo but we also study other subjects such as Tachi Uchi no Kurai, Mizoguchi-ha Itto Ryu and Bojutsu.
The club is based in The Education Village, Darlington practising on a Thursday night or the Sports Hall at New College Durham on a Monday night. Both are two hour sessions from 7 - 9 pm. We have now opened a club at Pallion Action Group in Sunderland which is 6.45 – 8.30 pm on Friday evenings. For those who wish to come along, please aim to arrive half an hour earlier so that we can start promptly and get warmed up before we begin.
